World Water Day 22nd March : ”Valuing Water”
Celebrated on the 22nd March, World Water Day focuses on the essential value of water. Water is a necessity for the functioning of all life forms on earth. If we analyse our personal lives, we will realize that water is the foundation of our existence. Although there is a vast amount of water on earth, water is still very much limited.
Almost 97 % of water makes up the oceans, soil, ice caps, and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, only about 0.3 % of water is useable to humans. We build cities, cleanse, play and drink it but not only that, for many religious beliefs water has a tremendous role in rituals and ceremonies. This is why we all need to value and conserve water.
Currently, we are living in unprecedented times due to COVID-19, spreading at disturbing rates. The need for safe water to practice proper hygiene especially washing hands is important. However, our safe water is depleting while our population is growing. Let us not take water for granted, now is the time to be mindful, conserve water and protect it effectively for everyone.
Ways to conserve water
Check for leaks in pipes, hoses, faucets, and couplings
Turn off the water while brushing your teeth
Take shorter showers
Don’t run the hose while washing your vehicles
